Pete watched as Mrs Spencer slowly pressed the numbers on her phone. She nodded at him when it started ringing.

‘Ms Wilson? Mrs Spencer here.’ She paused, listening. ‘I’ve bin thinking about it, and you’re right. I’d like to make those bitches pay. Meet me tomorrow mornin’ at the caff at the end of the High Street.’ Another pause. ‘Yeah, that one. Ten o’clock suit you? Perfect. See you then.’

The call ended, and she winked at Pete. ‘I can look after meself, see. I’ll be in a caff. Nothin’ can happen there, love.’

He nodded, but his fists were clenched in a ball. He felt powerless, stuck at home. All he could do was hope she was right.
